Instruments and Replicas
from the Bronze Age and the Iron Age
Samuel Meric - L'Obrador
Craftsman, musician, artist

Since 2020 in my workshop in Auribail, France, I have been making and selling archaeological copies of carnyces, bronze trumpets used by the Celts 2,200 years ago. I also make bronze-cast archaeological replicas of swords, axes, and other objects from the European Bronze Age.
Alongside my craft activity, I am also a musician and sound technician. In my studio, I have been recording the carnyx (and other instruments) for several years for various international projects: films, series, video games, albums.
Bronze Carnyx
Since June 2025, “Carnyx of Tintignac” has been a registered trademark of the city of Naves.
In 2004, in Tintignac, Corrèze, Christophe Maniquet and his team discovered 7 carnyces in pieces (7 heads and a lot of fragments of tubes, crests, ears, mouthpieces…), among 500 other fragments of bronze objects. I chose to reproduce several elements from this deposit in order to recreate a carnyx, while meticulously following the information found in archaeological publications, with the aim of obtaining an authentic instrument and sound.
Nebra bronze sword
In 1999, in Nebra (Germany), illegal excavators discovered the Nebra sky disk, a bronze disk about 32 cm in diameter representing the sky at night. The disk is from 1600 BC. Along with this disk, several bracelets, axes, and two short bronze swords with gold rings and fine decorations were also discovered.
